What size recycler do I need?

It depends on how much waste solvent you generate per day/month. CHEMCHAMP's A5 will recycle about 5 gallons per day. Therefore if you generate 1-2, 55-gallon drums per month one (1) unit should be sufficient. However many customers use multiple units for larger volumes. This could help eliminate moving waste and solvent throughout your plant. CHEMCHAMP's A18 will recycle about 18 gallons per day. Therefore if you generate 3-8, 55-gallon drums per month one (1) unit should be sufficient. However many customers will use multiple units for larger volumes. This could help eliminate moving waste and solvent throughout your plant.

How do I know if the 55-gallon drum is full on the A18?

The 55-gallon drum is equipped with an internal float system that is monitored by the control board. If the 55-gallon unit is full and a cycle is attempted, an error 10 message will appear on the display.

What is a still bottom?

Still bottom is the residue left in the bag after a successful cycle. It mainly consists of some solids and free liquids that have no value to the clean solvent that has been recovered.

Why is the still bottom not hard after a cycle?

Still bottoms, also known as "Hockey pucks", are not always hard. There are many solvents, binders, & resins that you do not want in your clean recycled solvent. Unlike conventional recycling units, CHEMCHAMP's Control Method has the ability to segregate these unwanted contaminants ensuring clean recycled solvent every time.

What should I look for when I introduce a new product to the Recycler?

Make sure that the solvent has a boiling temperature of less then 350F and an auto-ignition temperature greater then 437F. Do not look at the boiling temperature on the MSDS only, as that will only show you the lowest boiling ingredient on the sheet. You must examine each ingredient that the product contains. These ingredients are usually defined in section 2 of the MSDS. If you are in doubt, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. the MSDS.

Why can't I put Nitrocellulose in the Recycler?

Nitrocellulose has a very low auto-ignition temperature (Approx 135F). Auto-Ignition is the temperature at which the chemical will ignite without a spark. Therefore, because the A18 has a maximum temperature of 381F the chemical could ignite. Note: Nitrocellulose can sometimes be found in older stains used in the Furniture Industry. Therefore, Furniture Refinishers should take extra precautions.

What type of solvents will work in the CHEMCHAMP Recyclers?

ChemChamp has two types of Solvent Recyclers. The A series are designed for flammable solvent that have a boiling temperature less then 350F and an auto-ignition temperature greater then 437F. Some of the more common solvents are: Acetone, MEK, MAK, Xylene, Alcohols, Toluol, Lacquer thinners, & Reducers.

How should I dispose of the still bottoms?

ChemChamp recommends that the still bottoms be placed in a UN approved 30 or 55-gallon drum, which can be hauled away by a licensed waste company when full.

Will the A-18 work on a 208v outlet?

Absolutely, the A18 will work between 208 Volts and 240 Volts. Please note that the A-18 is designed to be hardwired into your power box.
